Musing Mondays #12

This meme is hosted by Should be Reading.

Every week a new 'musing' question is posted by the host for all participants to answer in their own posts.

This week's musing is:

Do you have a reading goal for the year, such as __ books? Why or why not?

Yes, I do have a reading goal this year, and I had one last year too. In all honesty, I'm not entirely sure why I do them though! I think it may just be similar to liking watching the page number I'm on go up - there's just something satisfying about it. Plus, this year it's even better, because I did the challenge last year too, so I can try to beat it this year!
I keep track of my reading goal on Goodreads, who, for the past two years, have allowed users to set themselves a reading challenge, and keep track of it through a widget on the site. I also have it in the left sidebar on this blog, which is cool!
Both years that I've done this, I have set myself a challenge of 50 books in a year. Last year, I managed 57 books (all but one of which were for pleasure, so I didn't count most of books that I read for uni). And uni is the reason that this target is so low. During a semester, I have to spend so much time reading and working for uni, that reading for anything else kind of has to take a back seat. I do still manage to meet the challenge though, and I'd rather exceed my challenge, than fail to make it, really! I don't want to add any more stress to what I already have from my numerous jobs and coursework.

Like I said, this year, my challenge is set at 50 books again, but I am already at 27 read, with another that I'm about 40 pages from finishing, so I'm about 6/7 books ahead of schedule at the moment. I really hope I can beat last year's amount!

What about you guys? Do you set yourself reading challenges or goals for the year? Let me know in the comments below :)

Congrats so far then! I bet you'll do it (also don't know if you noticed but the GR widget doesn't update itself any more! How silly is that? I'm hoping to read 50 this year *fingers crossed*

My goal this year is 200, and I'm already at 103 (19 ahead), but many of these are short stories. :)

My Goodreads target is 180 which seems a scary amount but is only a handful more than I read last year. And that includes novellas and digital shorts. I appear to be ahead at the moment after trailing behind most the year. Yey!

My goal last year was 100 and I read 104, so this year I set myself a goal of 111. I'm only at 27 right now, so I'm terribly far behind.
