Showcase Sunday #24

Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by the wonderful Vicky at Books, Biscuits & Tea, where we will show off the books and eBooks we received each week.

Unfortunately, this week I have not had the time to film, edit and upload a book haul video, so there will be no physical books shown in this week's Showcase Sunday. I will postpone showing you these until next week - it'll be worth the wait, I promise!
However, I did get quite a few eBooks this week, so I will still show you these! :)

eBooks

The Blue Blazes by Chuck Wendig:
I received this one to review from the publishers via NetGalley, earlier in the week. I've read a little of the first book in the Miriam Black series, Blackbirds, and it was really good (I'm looking forward to continuing reading it!), so I thought I'd pick this one up as well. It seems like a really gritty and interesting read.

Tooth and Claw by Jo Walton:
This was the first title I got from the science-fiction Kindle Daily Deals earlier in the week. There were three titles on the deal, and I ended up getting two of them (the third I already have). This is described as a Victorian family drama, but with dragons, and although this might sound a bit strange, it has such good reviews that I couldn't resist!

Sanctum by Sarah Fine:
This is the second book from the science-fiction Kindle Daily Deals that I decided to buy, and again I can't wait to read it. From what I remember of the synopsis, it's about a girl who's friend (or sister?) commits suicide and ends up in hell, and she risks everything to go to hell and bring her back out of there. But there is a gatekeeper (kind of person, can't remember what the exact term was) who knows there are worse places to be trapped than hell, and he wants to keep the protagonist safe from there.
It sounds really interesting, and again, it has really good reviews!

The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss:
This is one that's been on my wishlist for a while now, and I found it in the Kindle spring sale for just 99p, so of course I had to snap it up! It's adult fantasy, and it sounds like exactly my kind of thing - I'm really looking forward to it!

Crossing the Line by Katie McGarry:
If you've read my blog, or seen my YouTube videos before, you'll know that I absolutely adore Katie McGarry, so of course, when this was released, I had to get it! It's a short story (about 60-70 pages) that comes after Pushing the Limits and before Dare You To. I'm hoping to get to read it sometime in the next week!

Human Remains by Elizabeth Haynes:
This is a crime novel, so a big difference for me, as I don't dip into this genre very often. However, I have been told by so many people that I need to read Elizabeth Haynes, that I've finally caved about bought one of her books. I think this is her latest novel, and it was going really cheap on Kindle (I think I paid £1.59), so I downloaded it. Definitely looking forward to seeing if I enjoy this more than other crime books I've tried.

The Time Machine by H. G. Wells:
This is the last eBook I got this week, and it's one that I downloaded earlier today for free from the Amazon Kindle site. I read War of the Worlds when I was younger and really enjoyed it, so I thought I'd give this (another science-fiction classic) a go.

As usual, let me know what books you got this week, and like I said, I will be back with my videos of my physical book hauls next week :)

Thanks! I just had to go grab Crossing the Line! <3 Katie McGarry! I hadn't heard of any of the other ones before, but I do like a good Sci-Fi, so will be watching out for your thoughts on any of those!

I've heard lots of great things about Elizabeth Haynes too, although I'm yet to read anything by her yet.

Great books, enjoy!!

I haven't read any of Katie McGarry's books yet (although I do have a copy of Pushing the Limits) but it's always nice to see how a favourite author deals with writing short stories. It's definitely a tricky thing and not everyone can pull it off, I think. Let's hope this one lives up to your expectations. x

Oh my gosh, is the Kindle Spring Sale still going? I didn't realise The Name of the Wind was up there for only 99p. Been wanting to read that one for a while now :-) I got Tooth and Claw this week too... it sounds very intriguing doesn't it? I heard someone say it's like Pride and Prejudice with dragons. O.0

Enjoy your reads and have a lovely week!
