Friday Recommends #7

So it's Friday again, and that means another Friday Recommends post.
I've been wracking my brains to think of another different one that I would really highly recommend to my readers this week, and I think I've come up with a fantastic one!

The Radleys by Matt Haig
Goodreads synopsis:
Meet the Radleys

Peter, Helen and their teenage children, Clara and Rowan, live in an English town. They are an everyday family, averagely dysfunctional, averagely content. But as their children have yet to find out, the Radleys have a devastating secret

From one of Britain’s finest young novelists comes a razor-sharp unpicking of adulthood and family life. In this moving, thrilling and extraordinary portrait of one unusual family, The Radleys asks what we grow into when we grow up, and explores what we gain – and lose – when we deny our appetites.

This is a British Vampire novel, but with a twist! At my job as a bookseller, when I recommend this to come customers, they let out a very audible groan at the word 'vampire'. It's true that vampire fiction has become very popularized and mainstream over the past few years, and while that's great for someone like me, who enjoys the odd paranormal romance, I understand that some are not so enthusiastic, to put it in a nice way.
The Radleys, though, is one I would recommend to vampire lovers and haters alike. Okay, yes you have the family of vampires, but it is less about the vampires and more about the problems that teenagers face as they navigate their way to adulthood, and especially about the dynamics of modern family life.
The characters are truly unique and well-developed, the plot is original and clever, but yet makes you laugh at the same time.

I really think that this is one that everyone should try - even the vampire-haters!
Modern vampire fiction at it's most creative!

Let me know what you think of this week's recommendation in the comments below! I'd be really interested to hear what you have to say!

I'm not a huge fan of vampire novels, probably just because they seem to be so popular now. This one sounds less vampire and more problems of teens. That might be more interesting for me.
